The reason for the name Moluccan is simply that these birds are primarily from the islands of Moluccas and New Guinea which falls under the domain of the Indonesian government. Loss of their habitat and predication have decreased the number of these King Parrots quite considerably. These parrots are now "near-threatened" endangered species.
